Shipyards Adapting to Changing Markets

With a lifting capacity of up to 800 t, Sydney City Marine is a full-service shipyard which caters for all types of marine craft, from small recreational vessels to large commercial vessels, tugs and superyachts.

This presentation will give some insight into the challenges which full-service shipyards face and need to overcome due to a diverse and varied client base in an increasingly compliance-driven modern marine industry.

The presentation will explain how Sydney City Marine has formed strategic partnerships, and designed and engineered complex solutions as well as adapted and improved its facilities, workforce and capabilities to cater for larger segments of the market while minimising the impact on their existing recreational yacht and power-boat markets.

Brenton will also give a brief run-down of some of his experiences competing in the Sydney–Hobart Yacht Race, including reaching speeds of up to 38 kn on a 30m super-maxi crossing Bass Strait.
